Mendes Silva pursues again - after the installation and performance at Marz
Galeria (in Rua Reinaldo Ferreira in Lisboa, 2009) and the newspaper Reporter X, for Paperwork, Guimarães European Culture (published
in 2011) - her fascination for Reinaldo Ferreira
(1897-1935), who was the creator and mentor of 'Reporter X', a popular journalist of the
1930's who spewed reports for newspapers on murders and other fait-divers.
Printed as fact, these articles were largely fabricated by Ferreira and his
entourage of collaborators, whom he taught the art of "reporterxizar"
(reporter "x"ing). Audiences were taken aback by the scandals and
events delivered by the infamous, but invented reporter. Besides from being a
fiction writer and a journalist, he was also a playwriter and movie director. Reinaldo
lived and worked in Porto from the late 1920’s until early 1930’s
futuristically imagining that in the year 2000 this city would be called Portogaia...
The performance is built around a city journey
ponctuated by a narrative approach and the evocation of a framework Reinaldo
Ferreira/ Reporter X’s memories. The journey plan will only be revealed during
the performance, but you can start your own research with the links provided.
